Each member of our team is committed to providing the highest quality learning and development programmes for your business. They are both skilled and qualified trainers as well as experienced outdoor instructors, all having achieved a high standard of relevant qualifications in their areas of expertise. As such they are perfectly placed to deliver outstanding and highly effective experiential learning in the outdoors.

Alan Pearson - senior trainer



Alan is a firm believer in encouraging development through genuinely challenging experiences in the outdoors. He joined The Outward Bound Trust in 2006 with over 10 years experience in the outdoor sector, having previously worked in roles ranging from Youth Development work to lecturing in Outdoor Education. Alan provides a creative and flexible approach to course delivery together with a high standard of skills in outdoor activities.  Clients he's worked with include: Rolls Royce, BAE Systems, Rothschilds Bank, HSBC, National Grid, Kier, British Sugar and Sellafield.

Alan is also a very active mountaineer in his spare time as well as being a team member of the Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team.



Dave Holmes - senior trainer



Dave has experienced both graduate and apprentice training first hand, giving him a unique insight into delivering these development programmes. He joined The Outward Bound Trust in 2000, specialising  in graduate development. Dave has over 12 years experience of experiential learning in the outdoors, he also has experience in the corporate sector having managed teams at both BP and Yorkshire Water. He is passionate about the outdoors and is a highly skilled and competent outdoor instructor. Dave is particularly interested in the benefits of coaching and mentoring to help improve business performance. Recent clients include: Reliance, NSCC, Airbus and VT Group.

Dave is also a keen mountaineer in his spare time and has been on trips to both Morocco and the Alps.



Sean Snow - senior trainer



Sean excels in tailoring courses to the needs of individuals, bringing out people's potential in order for them to excel during their course and back in the work place. Before beginning his career as an outdoor instructor and joining The Trust in 1997, Sean worked in retail management and the construction industry.  He now has over fifteen years' experience as a facilitator, along with a Postgraduate Certificate in Development and Training, and is highly skilled in delivering learning through outdoor adventure.  Recent clients include; BAE, Rolls-Royce, Forbo Flooring, DFS and Cooperative financial services.

Sean is a keen runner, and even ran the London Marathon as part of a team carrying a full size sailing boat! He's also currently studying towards a degree in Psychology.

Nev Holmes - senior trainer



Nev holds a PGCE in Further, Higher and Adult Education and has three years experience as a lecturer in FE. He is particularly interested in the transfer of learning as a key part of training and development. Nev started working with The Outward Bound Trust in 2002 and has been full time since 2008, focusing on apprentice development programmes. He has been facilitating for 10 years and has 15 years experience in the outdoor industry, including the delivery and assessment of key skills in a college environment. Clients he’s worked with include; Rolls-Royce, Unilever, National Grid, London Underground, ECITB (Engineering & Construction Industry Training Board), Airbus and BMW.

Nev was previously a professional drummer and recorded a couple of albums in the 1990s! He's also lived abroad, in Germany and Hong Kong.

Bob Spencer - senior trainer



Bob has been a trainer for over 21 years and has accumulated a wealth of experience, skills and intuition. This enables him to get the best results through training, both for the individual and the team. He first started working for The Outward Bound Trust as a freelancer in 1997 and has been full time with The Trust for four years. Having spent 10 years as a freelance trainer and having qualified as a Chartered Secretary he’s also experienced organisations from a business perspective.  His freelance roles have enabled him to work with a wide range of clients, using different styles and approaches to suit their needs.  Having a range of qualifications and skills at his disposal he is able to apply the right techniques to get the best results and not be constrained by a particular approach.  Clients he’s worked with include; HSBC, Rolls-Royce, Loughborough University, EADS, Audi, The Department for Work and Pensions, Komfort and Tullow Oil.

Bob took up scuba diving three years ago and has since been on diving expeditions to Newfoundland, Labrador and the Norwegian Fjords, which involved diving in water at minus two degrees Celsius!
