Associations - Essex

Who are we?

The Essex Association offers bursaries to young people (normally to 16 - 24 yrs) from Essex to attend Outward Bound courses at one of the three centres - in the Lake District, Scotland and Wales. The personal development courses are either one or three weeks in length and the Association aims to support those who could benefit most from the opportunity and who would not be able to attend without its support.

Our membership consists of people who have had their own lives shaped by The Outward Bound Trust as well as a wide representation from local Schools, Youth Services, Social Care, Connexions, the Police, plus interested organisations and individuals who just want to help.

What is an Outward Bound® Course?

A one week Outward Bound® Course consists of Young People taking on the challenge of the outdoors, often for the first time. Individuals come from various backgrounds to form groups which tackle everything from the Trapeze to an attempt on a Mountain Summit. All participants know that The Outward Bound Trust is more than just "Outdoor Activities" and everyone gains as much from making new friends as they do from the individual challenges..

The Association aims to:

• Promote The Outward Bound Trust in Essex
• Raise funds
• Identity, select and support participants

Geographical Area Covered

The Essex Outward Bound® Association covers the geographical area of the County of Essex and includes Southend and Thurrock Unitary Authorities.
